Create Ownership.
Find Your Better.

Olympic Gold Medalist, Founder & CEO, Philanthropist, Writer, and Board Member. I’ve been in your seat, let’s have a real talk about getting better.

Something here about what is brought to an event, real person, etc.

Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point. If you sell something, use this space to describe it in detail and tell us why we should make a purchase. Tap into your creativity. You’ve got this.

Let’s get into the details…

AREAS OF INTEREST

  • Sometimes I’m asked to dive into one of these domains deeper than the others - and that is always fun.

After over 25 years of high-performance sport, business, philanthropy, and bureaucracy coupled with incredible loss, depression, and personal and professional challenges - the “rules of better” are a set of simple principles anyone who wants to get better at anything should apply.

This talk, discussion, or inverse panel is for the generalists who are looking for improvements in any and all facets of their lives.

From leadership to relationships to entrepreneurship to personal physical & mental health and performance - the “rules” are always popular.

  • As you can imagine, this topic has become much more popular in recent years. Always popular with all crowds, I find more men coming up to me to talk about their challenges than any other discussion I have.

I competed in the Olympic Games with six men. By the age of 41 I’d buried two of them from mental health challenges. I, myself, experienced depression to the point that I almost paid the same price as my fallen Olympic teammates.

But my path back and my practices to ensure I’m never back there again are sometimes controversial, but line up with the science and research on challenging ourselves, not comforting ourselves, to be stronger and more resilient.

Aways led with a disclaimer - this conversation touches deeply on depression, suicide and suicidal thought.

  • I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with and alongside so many successful people who just want to do good in this world, while continuing to make money and or maintain the lifestyle they desire.

They just don’t know how to do all.

This discussion leans into how to leverage the experiences and relationships we’ve accumulated in our lives to date in order to make a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.

  • Always a popular discussion to have amongst leaders and at conferences during an Olympic Year…

I went to three Olympic Games with three very different results - as an alternate, a favorite who got his ass kicked, and a Gold Medalist. How does one evolve, learn, stumble, and eventually come out on top?

From there, I founded the world’s foremost sport-for-education non-profit, teaching over 5 million kids and counting how to think like an Olympian.

Finally, we can talk about how the sausage is made from my eight years on the Board of Directors of the world’s most powerful Olympic Committee - the USOPC - where I Chaired committees and learned from organizational experiences with the Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics crisis, Congressional intervention, Russian state-sponsored doping, and the first postponement of an Oympics, ever.

  • Many of my discussions focus on leadership, building a purpose-driven company, the champion mindset, and high-performance in sport, life and or work.

I also find people very interested in strategies, skills, and behavior patterns associated with longevity and health - likely due to the Attia and Huberman effect on society… of which I am a big fan!

METHODOLOGY

I don’t give canned speeches - I’m not a regular motivational speaker.

My mission is to help people, and myself, find their “better”.

  • I believe life is most fulfilling when we view the obstacles and opportunities in front of us as challenges to better ourselves, and I prefer working with groups and events who are open to exploring new ways of viewing their world, their experiences, their work, their health, and their relationships.

I started and run a growing organization, have led change in the board room with decisions affecting all Americans, and have been the best in the world at my chosen sport. I am NOT a speaker who got famous by telling people what to do - I’ve been out doing and enjoy meeting with groups to share stories and skills, and have experiences.

I believe my experiences are unique while also believing in capturing the experiences of other successful people along with the research and evidence behind the stories we all tell.

I work with people to align my talk with their event or meeting purpose/desired outcome. When I’m on stage, I’m not providing a rehearsed and memorized speech but rather spending time with the audience in what feels like - to them and me - a friendly conversation with their engagement.

Every style and topic is sure to bring in inspiring and wild Olympic stories, and come complete with the Olympic Gold Medal for your audience to pass around, take pictures with, and make a memory for a lifetime!

I meet with groups in one of three ways, or sometimes a combination of:

Solo on-stage: A more typical talk where I am the keynote but not standing behind a podium. I will interact with, and often go out into, the audience. Even when it’s in the thousands.

Fireside chat: A popular style in today’s less formal leadership retreat and conference environment. Typically a senior leader from the company and I sit on stage together to exchange stories, and focus on the company’s unique challenges and opportunities.

Inverse Panel: A special event requiring 2-months of lead time where 3-4 SME’s from a company or conference are on stage with me for a panel discussion. Except I’m not the moderator - the employees/attendees are. They are the experts in their field and we exchange ideas, stories, and opportunities to improve in a friendly way that provides them an opportunity of a lifetime!
